Netgear ReadyNAS Ultra 2, WESTERN DIGITAL 3TB CAVIAR GREEN

Just bought a Netgear ReadyNAS Ultra 2 on sale, while I wait for delivery. I am looking at buying some hard disks.
Checkout the compatibility list.
WESTERN DIGITAL 3TB CAVIAR GREEN ( WD30EZRX) is one the list.
However the list notes "Must be used with 4.2.16 or newer firmware."
Can't seem to find out anywhere what firmware comes with the NAS.
Anyone using this combo?

Firmware that comes on the NAS would vary depending on when the unit was manufactured.

Put one 3TB disk in the NAS. If running firmware older than 4.2.16 it will likely be recognised as having <1TB capacity. Don't worry about this. Update the firmware via System > Update > Remote in Frontview, verify the update completed successfully then power down, put all disks in and do a factory default via the boot menu: http://www.readynas.com/kb/faq/boot/how_do_i_use_the_boot_menu

This will give you a clean setup on the latest firmware.
  • Thanks for a quick reply, I will go ahead and order a pair of the disks :)
