NETGEAR RN202-100NES ReadyNAS 202 2 Bay - Questions
Hi,
I'm thinking about this NAS for my home office. I have a few questions:
1) Drive compatibility - I'm thinking about using 2 Crucial SSD drives, are there any drive compatibility issues to check?
2) I want to backup data from my web server to the NAS. Can I set FTP details on the NAS so I can get the server to direcly upload backups to it.
3) I see it has dual Gigabit ethernet, do you plug both ports into the router and get twice the speed?
4) I use both PC and Mac, anything I need to be aware of in terms of file types/format, fomatting the drives etc to make sure it all works?
5) Can I install 2.5" drives without any adaptors?
Many thanks
Dave

The disk compatibility list is here: http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/20641 Netgear hasn't invested much time in qualifying SSDs. I suspect your drives will work, but if they are not on the list Netgear can (usually will) deny support.
I suggest jbod for SSDs.

You can enable FTP access for a share. You'd need to forward ports in the router of course.

The product supports NIC bonding. LACP requires both ends (NAS and router) to support it, there are some bonding modes in the NAS that work with any router.
You won't see twice the speed for a single user, but total throughput can be increased if you have several users.
4) I use both PC and Mac, anything I need to be aware of in terms of file types/format, fomatting the drives etc to make sure it all works?
You install the drives unformated. The NAS formats them (ext for the OS partition, BTRFS for the data)
5) Can I install 2.5" drives without any adaptors?
Yes.
