New HD readynas Ultra 6

Hello, My Nas is running full on drive size... I want to buy new drives but the hardware compability list is outdated so i don't know which drive to choose. I have now 3 Samsung HD204UI 2 TB (5200 rpm) drives running Xraid 2.
Can someone recommend a drive that will work and is still available?

Have you considered the WD 2TB RED?
Wil it work on my Nas? I have now a 5400 rpm hd and this is a 7200!
  • The WD Red (WD20EFRX) is not 7200rpm. Per http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/red ... 248-2.html they are running at 5400 rpm.

However, you can mix drives with different rotation speeds in the same RAID array - that does not create any problems.

There are two product lines out there that are designed for home NAS use - one from Seagate, one from Western Digital. Both offer 3 year warranties, and if you run into a problem and need to RMA the drive, you'd get a replacement suitable for use in a NAS. Price is a little higher than desktop drives, but in my view the longer warranty and easier support more than make up for the price difference.

Western Digital's line is the WD RED (http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.aspx?id=810). Seagate's NAS drive line was launched this summer and is here: http://www.seagate.com/internal-hard-dr ... s/nas-hdd/ The Western Digital drives are already on the ultra's HCL, so they are the better choice (since Netgear can/will deny support if you move away from the HCL).
  • Hello many thanks for your answers! I'll go for the WD Red :) maybe the 3TB versions.
  • I have buyed recently Netgear ReadyNAS Ultra 6 and installed it 3 WD 2 TB EADS drives, I have the ReadyNAS hooked to a d links 24 port gigabit router this is also have new router currently, is my U Verse gateway, since I have trouble setting up my better router behind them.
  • I don't think DLINK makes a 24 port router. I think you bought a DLINK gigabit switch. Can you provide the model number?

Personally I would have gone with RED drives (EFRX models), not the older EADS green drives.

Yes I was replying to rayanah. Confusion often results with users join in to post problems they think are related. It is best to use new threads.
