New ReadyNAS that can use my existing NV+ drives and RETAIN DATA?
Hi, My ReadyNAS NV+ is now out of support and so I'm considering replacing it with another ReadyNAS product. Over the years all of the drives have been replaced, in other words the current drives a...

No. Different platform and different filesystem.
Do you not have a backup of your data?
You should setup the new device and transfer the data over your LAN.
Netgear does offer assistance ( for a fee) in migrating disks directly from older to new readynas devices, but this is generally only necessary when the old device has suffered a hardware failure and is therefore a data recovery service. The procedure requires the user to backup the data once accessed so you would need disk space elsewhere anyway.

I have backup and the NAS is still working. I'm planning ahead here and was hoping not to buy a full set of drives. Cancel that idea.
Thanks.

You could use the same set of drives and restore from your backup, but that leaves you with only a single copy of your data for a while. Too risky I would say.

Not really any different from restoring from backup after a NAS failure.
The OP should check to see if the drives on the HCL though.

True, that's why OP should not go for this option.

It might be wise to look at the SMART stats on the backup drives. But if his disks are on the HCL, then I see no real issue here.
It's not any different from the normal Netgear migration (copy data to external storage, set up NAS, restore data). If the disks are relatively new, on the HCL, and the backup is good there should be no problem. Not sure why you are thinking it is unacceptably risky - perhaps you can explain?
