New RN104 fan speed 0 rpm and system status dead #26814707

Hi,

I have an RN104 for a good while now but only unboxed and set it up in last few days as I was waiting to buy some hard drives.
I have 2 x WD Red 4TB drives in it now. Upgraded to 6.4.2, setup in Flex-raid JBOD and have been transferring files to the 2 drives over the past couple of days.

However I seem to be getting Fan System in Enclosure internal speed is below threshold (0 rpm)" alarms now and my system status is System Dead.

I have rebooted and powered down for a while as the CPU was at 75 degress celcius. After power down it was back down around 50 but soon started to climb again.

I read a couple of old threads in relation to hacks for controlling fan speed and notice there is a new Beta OS ReadyNASOS 6.5.0 (RC2).

However old threads seen to tweak fans that were running slow than not at all and the Beta is not recommended unless instructed directly by Netgear Support.

So any ideas?

Thanks

I'd contact support and ask for an RMA.

I don't see any reason to try to "fix" it with fan control software.  You shouldn't be seeing this problem in a new out-of-the-box system.

      I agree.

Those fan messages would suggest possible hardware failure.

You should contact support. They may request your logs and to have a look at your system so they can verify there is a hardware issue before approving the RMA.

Thanks for the replies guys. I was hoping to avoid RMA as it has been in a box for 18 months or so without use - but looking into the warrenty further it seems to be covered for 3 years. I have opened a support case so will see what they say.
