No Acces and System reset not working

Hey guys, I have annother extremely annoying problem.
I unplugged my ReadyNas Duo v2 from its network to take it home to access
my data locally. Now I cant access it.

Not with direct connection to my notebook, not via switch and not via router.
The IP of the NAS was set manually to 192.168.5.4 in 255.255.255.0. I cant even
connect if I use 192.168.5.x for my notebook (without DHCP).

I cant ping it and even my router doesnt detect it. And RAIDAR doesnt detect
it anyway (Raidar NEVER worked for me).

My idea was to reset the System bei holding the "SYS"-Button on the
back for 5 seconds while booting. But it shows no reaction, the HDD
diodes dont blink. Even if i hold the button for nearly 10 seconds.

Is there any solution to access or to reset the System? Or am I doing
something totally wrong?

Greetz,
Enfreyer.

  • My (Cable-)Modem (Thomson THG571) and its IP is 192.168.100.1. And afaik its a modem only, without an
integrated router. So I'm presently just wondering why I changed my routers IP and why it helped to solve
my problems hosting the NAS online ^^.
    (its about 5 months ago)

My router is an Netgear WNDR4000, by the way. I only forwarded Port 21 and about 20
more (for passive ftp) directly from the router to my NAS at 192.168.5.4.
    Should I have concerns?

The way I read page 11 of the Thompson manual (http://www.kabelfernsehen.ch/dokumente/ ... THG570.pdf), the modem is really what is normally called a gateway and has routing functions. It is providing you a private IP address, and the device is capable of providing IP addresses to up to 32 computers when connected to a switch.

Though there is no 192.168.1.1 device on your network, so you shouldn't be setting that address as a DNS server.

On port forwarding - if you can connect to the NAS using FTP over the internet, then there is no concerns. Generally it is best to use ftps if you can, as it is encrypted/secure. FileZilla is one PC client that supports ftps.
  • Ok, thank very much so far.

I thought about SFTP a few month ago. But I dropped the idea, because I want a Storage
that can be easily accessed by my friends and family over the internet (without any
additional tool). And the second issue is, that the Duo V2 is missin SFTP and FTPS ;).

The other ReadyNAS have the explicit variant of FTPS, I suspect the v2 does also. They have no way to mandate FTPS though, they will still accept FTP.
