noobie

Evening all.
Well, after reviewing a variety of NAS devices, looking through innumerable sites, etc.... I think I need to ask some questions.
I have 3 laptops. 2 PC's (one on Win7HmPrem, and other Vista Bus.) and 1 Mac G4, Powerbook, running Tiger- 10.4.11.
I'm on a wireless router- Linksys Wrt54s.
I'm interested in centralizing my data storage, and being able to access from either computer.
I was really impressed to see that I can now do so much with the newer NAS devices-- off site access, ftp, and some other stuff.
Listening to the videos, I'm now wondering if I can access the files from offsite, using my HTC Trophy Windows7 Phone. Hey... those were impressive videos.

My question is-- on a $200.00 budget, what can I do/get?

It "just seems all so much" to figure out.
Help....
Thank you.

$200 budget is pretty tight and would only get you a low-end model from any manufacturer. Good for basic needs. The ReadyNAS Duo is a good entry-level ReadyNAS.
  • And that would be without any drives. If you are in the U.S., you might want to consider browsing the Newegg website. I have bought from them for almost 5 years now and never had a problem. Their standard shipping generally reaches me in 3 working days or less as it comes via UPS. They carry a good variety of ReadyNAS and other products. They also list the Netgear Stora which is from another division and is NOT compatible with the ReadyNAS. Also this forum can't help you. It is a very low level entry product.
