NV+ V2 and WD RE4

To anyone out there having trouble with RE4 drives (specifically the WD1003FBYX) and the NV+ V2, avoid the 5.3.5 firmware. Transferring 40GB or more will cause the NV to hang and drop off the network, requiring a plug pull to reset.
Rolling back to 5.3.4 and performing a factory reset solves this (make sure the NAS is disconnected from the net, as it will try and update to the latest firmware on reboot).
Also 5.3.2 has issues when performing the inital sync between drives, again 5.3.4 works perfectly.

Hopefully this will save someone some time, a big thanks to gandalfnet in this thread - http://www.readynas.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=63361&p=354829&hilit=nv+v2+drops+off+network#p354829

These drives aren't currently listed on the HCL as far as I can see, but interestingly Netgear said they were supported over the phone

Cheers

  • Interesting, that's exactly the combination I'm using. It seems I read the wrong compatibility list as they are listed as supported on the NV+ but not the NV+ V2. I haven't encountered any problems so far, (although I haven't moved as much as 40GB at once yet). FWIW I'm mounting using NFS and have disabled CIFs et-al as I don't need them.
