Opinions on the ReadyNAS 104
Hi,
Considering purchasing a ReadyNAS 104 but can't find many reviews. Decided to go to the source. Anyone have one?

- StephenBGuru - Experienced UserI have a beta RN102.
-There still is some software work for Netgear to do, particularly on the app store/genie piece. I don't really need those add-ons at present, so its not a concern for me. But it clearly is for some. So it is a bit of a work-in-progress - though I have not had any issues with data corruption or loss, even during the beta.
-Though there have been some concerns raised on the btfrs file system, I have found it to be stable. I like the better snapshot capability and defrag that is available with btfrs.
-Overall the UI is more modern than Frontview and the services are quite complete (unlike the NV+ v2). Antivirus software is one nice addition.
The overall performance falls between my Pro-6 and my duo/nv+ v1 (hardly surprising). I'm not how it compares to the v2 (though personally I wouldn't buy a v2 at this point). There are some concerns posted in the forum about performance with multiple users. I haven't seen that (though I likely wouldn't, since I am using it in my home).
If you need real-time transcoding for media, want x86 performance, or the longer warranty you should also price the RN314. If you want a value-priced home NAS with good overall features and modest (but certainly acceptable) performance, the RN1xx is worth a look. - hmuessigLuminaryI had a 104 that I exchanged for a 314.
In general both boxes are nice and I like the UI. Good and solid.
I did the exchange because we will use the ReadyNAS in a home office situation where one of us will be doing accounting and the other Adobe applications. The performance on the 104 just was not there . . .
That said, the 104 streamed video to DLNA devices -- TV and iPad -- beautifully and for simple file sharing, even with two of us the performance was fine.
Do note that the OS -- now 6.0.6 -- still seems to be late beta stuff. There are lots of bugs and features that are not fully implemented.
YRMV - chrizfitzAspirantThanks guys,
I went ahead and got one and so far so good. 3x3tb 23hrs to build. The more I find out the more I know I'm an early adapter. Definitely some weird little bugs. I was of course hoping to get more opinions and details but for happy as a pig in sh1t now. I appreciate your comments.
