Process for clean install of Logitech Media Server 7.9 on OS6

I have a ReadyNAS Pro Business (2008 edition) that I've recently upgraded the RAM and processor on in preparation for the jump from OS4 to OS6. One of the major uses of the NAS is as a music server and I currently have LMS 7.9.1 running on OS4 without issues.

My plan is to do the jump to OS6 (clean install), restore the music files and then install Logitech Media Server and set it up like I had it setup on OS4. Recently I read several posts that cover several years in this forum that talk about the installation process for Logitech's media server and I am uncertain what to do. I'll outline what I think below, but please anyone with experience please correct any misunderstandings I have -- I really appreciate it as I don't want to spend a lot of churn guessing at what will work, undoing, then redoing. Thanks!

From Super-Poussin's dropbox site there is a readme.txt that says install the logitec file first then the lms file. I take that to mean install the files in this order:

  1. logitechmediaserver_7.9.0~1475786002_all.deb
  2. lms_7.9.0_all.deb

My questions:

  1. Just want to verify that this is the correct order of installation.
  2. Should I reboot the NAS between installations of these two files?
  3. Some users have reported seeing errors after the installation of the logitech file and even the lms file. Are these errors serious and how can I avoid them? If I can't avoid them, what should I do about them?
  4. Some users have mentioned that the Logitech media server is available on the OS6 app store now. I realize this may have happened over time since it's been 5 years. Is the app on the store now the better route for installing LMS? Better meaning fewer installation issues (no errors), but ultimately the same functionality.
  5. Any other tips/points that I should consider before I take the plunge?

TIA for your help!

David

  • I forgot to include my ReadyNAS specs:

    • RNDP6000-100NAS with 6x6TB drives in X-RAID format
    • FLAME-MB V2.0 BIOS
    • 8GB RAM
    • E7600 processor (upgrade) at 3.06GHz

(This is running with no issues on OS 4.2.31 except the system fan speed is a little low and the system temp sometimes hovers near 60C. Hoping OS6 provides facility to help improve the system fan speed.)

  • Can anyone see this post? No responses at all is unusual.

    Thanks

I did see it, but I haven't installed LMS myself. Hopefully someone who has done that fairly recently will chime in.

Thanks StephenB. Maybe you can help with a question about OS6.

I've got the firmware successfully installed last night without any apparent difficulty or errors (none in the logs). I loaded the prep4to6_0.1-x86.bin followed by R4toR6_6.9.5.bin without rebooting in between. After installation of the last .bin file, the unit rebooted and did a factory default as expected. Then the installation of 6.9.5 finished. Used RAIDar to find the unit and open the Admin page. It said there's an update available, as I expected, 6.10.1. So I updated to 6.10.1 successfully. None of this is the issue.

After successfully completing steps in the "wizard" to setup the volume, the admin page reported "Volume resyncing". It continued to resync for several hours and I went to bed. This morning I still see the message "Volume data is syncing (56.4%)" on RAIDar, and a similar resyncing message on the admin page. The system has been resyncing for several hours. This is surprising to me. I don't know what it's resyncing since there is no data on the volume. If it would still need to resync with a new volume, should it take many hours to do that?
