If I recall correctly, the Ultra 2 Plus hardware is the same as the Pro 2. Fast enough to saturate a gigabit ethernet connection for basic storage. My Pro 6 is still in service as part of my own backup plan.

It is. With OS4.2.x, certain functions (like Active Directory integration) were disabled if the vpd file identified the NAS as an "Ultra" or "Ultra Plus" rather than a "Pro" unit. With OS6, an Ultra2 Plus is functionally identical to a Pro2. The Ultra2 (non-plus) has a CPU with fewer cores but also no longer has functions disabled when running OS6.
