Ready Nas Adding a new disk
Running out of room on a ReadyNAS 202 with 2x6TB drives, looking to Buy a RN214 4-Bay and utilise the two existing 6TB drives (including their Data) and add another 6/8 TB drive later, Can I just purchase the RN214 unit and move the two existing 6TB drives containing their exising data over to the new NAS or will the unit try to re-build the drives and remove/delete the existing data.
What would you suggest is the best way to migrate the Drives and data to a new NAS?
Many thanks in advance
Steve
Hi spluds,
Welcome to the Community!
If the existing volume on your RN202 is on X-RAID, you can move the two existing 6TB drives from your RN202 to the RN214 then add another drive later. You may check this link as well for reference in migrating a volume to another OS6 unit.
In my opinion, it is always best that you do a backup of your data before doing a migration just to be safe as well.

Thanks John
I'll give that a go (backing up the data first).
