ReadyNAS 1000s Issues

Hi All,

Firstly I would like to confess that the number 1 cause of this issue is me being an idiot and not noting down Usernames/Passwords!

I bought a ReadyNAS 1000s a few years ago off of an internet auction site. I wanted it to be my personal RAID system, that I could hold all of my music on to stream to my music system, and also hold all of my photos, work bits etc. I soon found out that I would need bigger drives, and wanted to buy 4 x brand new 2TB drives, but funds put that on hold for a while, and the unit sat there unused for a while.

Long story short, I got given a comms rack, and I've started changing things around at home. I installed the ReadyNAS, powered on, and after searching for default username/password, I managed to find that I had already transferred some of my music on. So I thought it would be a good idea to transfer some more and get it all setup, as I had also read that I didn't need to buy 4 drives at a time, and they didn't even need to be the same size. I could buy one and fit it, and then when I could afford another one, fit that one. So it all made sense to start organising data etc and put it to use. Well, me being slightly techie, I wanted to make sure it was all safe and secure, and I changed admin username/password, AND the password recovery options.

Surprise, surprise, I've forgotten the details, and don't have them written down anywhere (think they were on a large scrap piece of paper with loads of notes on that I thought I was done with and binned). Tried to use the password recovery, and I get a box saying 'We've emailed password to specified email address' but I don't get an email! Soooo, after more searching and reading on forums, I found out about the O/S reinstall...........power unit off, hold reset button until HD LED lights flash once. Well I've tried, and no light flashes and no default Username/Password. I've held it in for 30 secs (factory reset (Not that I wanted to loose my data, just wanted something to happen)) and still no lights flashing.

Finally, I gave Netgear Support a ring. They said that they can't talk to me as I am not the registered owner, and no they wouldn't let me register as new owner. The guy said he was have a chat with his colleagues and phone me back, but I have had no phone call.

So, what can I do? I would be great to have to hints, suggestions etc...

Thanks,
JusticeEmpire
