ReadyNAS 104 OS6.2 ESATA attachment procedure

Hello all,
I'm struggling with attaching an external RAID to the ESATA port on the back side of my ReadyNAS 104 running OS 6.2.2.
My external RAID1 is a TAURUS Super-S LCM at firmware level 3.4 which is the latest one available.
The TAURUS does not allow any configuration for the ESATA port. The TAURUS menu is showing its ESATA interface as active when being connected and "activated" by both devices.
I had a chat with Netgear support and I was told that the ESATA port on the 104 is to attach a ReadyDATA expansion only but it may and may not work with external devices of other vendors.
My problem is that there is no documented procedure on how to attach an ESATA device to the ReadyNAS so that the ReadyNAS is recognizing it.
When I'm "playing around" with the ReadyNAS and ESATA attached TAURUS I can make it work but it seems to be by chance only.
I did not find a re-usable procedure so far.

Is there a documented procedure to attach ESATA devices?
(e.g. power off the ReadyNAS, attach the ESATA device, power on the ESATA device and wait until it's up and running, then power on the ReadyNAS, ...).
When the ReadyNAS is up and running, should it detect an ESATA device is attached (plug and play like USB)?

When the ReadyNAS is detecting the TAURUS the ESATA volumes shows up in the ReadyNAS admin pages.
The ReadyNAS is sending me an eMail documenting the external device was detected.
In this case the TAURUS menu is showing the ESATA interface as active.
The ReadyNAS is detecting the same TAURUS device every time when being USB attached.
Thanks in advance.

  • There is no ReadyData expansion, though perhaps they meant the EDA500. That doesn't work with the RN104 either, it is only supported on the RN300 and above.

The eSata port should simply work with standard eSata drives, but you are not the first to report issues. You might need to adapt the TAURUS to USB 3.0.
