Readynas 104 Re-sync
Hi Everyone,
I have ReadyNAS 104 which was running 4x4TB drives using X-Raid, drive1 was returning a lot of errors and the nas stopped responding all together. I have purchased a replacement 4tb drive, extracted drive1 and insertedt the new drive but the resync process doesn't start?
When I load the nas management page the status shows the following.
Status: Healthy
Firmware: 6.9.4 Hotfix 1
When I load the volumes page it displays the followng.
"Remove inactive volumes to use the disk #2,3,4".
The volumes show the following information.
Drive1
Volume Name:
Volume State: NEW
Disk State: UNKNOWN
Channel: 1
Drive2
Volume Name: data
Volume State: NEW
Disk State: ONLINE
Channel: 2
Drive3
Volume Name: data
Volume State: NEW
Disk State: ONLINE
Channel: 3
Drive4
Volume Name: data
Volume State: NEW
Disk State: ONLINE
Channel: 4
If I go to perfomance and hover over each drive it also displays volume type Raid 5 for drives 2,3 &4.
Can anyone help why the resync isn't starting?

I removed the disk and rebooted the NAS, the NAS then displayed "Data degraded" on the LCD screen which was new. At this point I inserted the new disk which started syncing.

I expect all will come out fine. What you saw can happen when you replace a drive (especially drive 1) with the unit off and that drive is pre-foprmatted. The unit gets confused in the boot process. The proper way (as you did the second time) is to hot-insert the replacement drive.
