I would suggest you:
1. Put a scratch disk (must not be from your array) into the replacement
2. Update the firmware to the latest version
3. Verify that the firmware update was successful
4. Power down and remove the scratch disk
5. Migrate your disks across to the replacement ReadyNAS (keep the order the same)
7. Power on.
