ReadyNas Duo V2 and Rsync
Hello all..
I am confused.. perplexed and baffled.
I have used and installed over 20 NAS devices, with no issues what so ever. None, Never. I have setup and used RSync to backup NAS to NAS. NAS to NAS over VPN, Server to NAS.. etc. I have one at the house. It makes my icecubs and fetches my robe.
I love the concept, the technology and the speed. It is great. I have a customer who wants a reliabe backup for a small server. I pitch them the NAS. Great.
I check it all over.. I see there are newer versions, I check them all out, as I am a cynic who never trusts data sheets from my vendors.
I goto....

I click product specs.. I see all the services I need there. It lists RSYNC. Great.
I purchase.. I receive. I goto setup.. OK. new dashboard. OK whatever..
RSYNC.. um.. where is it? Am I blind? Has it been moved??
I cross check all my data sheets. I start using reviews.. I come here. Its F***** GONE. WHAT THE F*******
Got any ideas? How can I solve this? Return? I made a sale based on Netgears own website and specs.

- Thanks for the post.
Looks like the page you referenced has an error. rsync is not available on the ReadyNAS Duo v2 software version that is available now. The main product page and the information on readynas.com are correct. We'll get that cleaned up.
We do have a Duo/NV+ v2 beta software image which should be ready shortly (within the next week or so) that will include rsync. This will be posted to the forum in the BETA section. - alex100AspirantHello,
Got a ReadyNas RND2000 V2 and really need rsync too !
I hope this addon 'll be available soon...
I really don't understand why rsync has been removed on the V2 software ?!
Thanks. - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredRsync is on the Duo v2. Just no option to enable it or to make use of it in the UI. I would like to see this feature added too.
- Thanks for the update.
I look forward to the release. I loved having rsync to backup with. I typically use Backup Assist with the RSync license. Proviced great backup reports and logs. Works well.
Hopefully this release will work or I'll have to swap NAS.
Thanks again. - PapaBear1ApprenticeI also use rsync to backup up my ReadyNAS NVX to a second NVX every night. I have hesitated to recommend the Duo/NV+ v2 because of the lack of available rsysnc. It is good news that the Beta being developed will allow it's activation. The v2 editions will then be a good lower cost option for backups.
- ewidanceAspirantUs too, we need rsync and NFS. I really don't understand the logic of updating software AND kill functions at the same time...
If you want ReadyNAS to be like other products : too simple, lack of functionnality and sad, you're pretty closed :)... - PapaBear1ApprenticeFirst - all the ReadyNAS products have had NFS and rsync for years. There was no update that killed functions on a ReadyNAS. The v2 versions of Duo and NV+ were new products with a different processor than any of the other existing models. As such they developed a new version of RAIDiator for that platform and it is the 5.3.x editions. Version 5.3.1 was the first release and the current version is 5.3.4 that was released on March 22. The 5.3.x editions have never activated rsync. The 4.1.x edition is for the sparc based units now discontinued (current version 4.1.8 ) and the 4.2.x edition is for x-86 based units which are the majority of the products offered. The current version is 4.2.19 released last September.
It is not a question of disabling rsync, it had never been enabled. - lucyxueAspirant

when this release will work? - PapaBear1ApprenticeWhen they release it in the beta format we will find out. Keep in mind that a Beta is a wide user based test of a system and is NOT recommended for operational units. If you are going to use the beta with rsync to back up from another NAS with rsync, hopefully the other unit will be a more mature product not also running a Beta version of RAIDiator.
I have two NVX units, one serving as the backup target for the other. I never update Frontview at the same time or expand the units at the same time. I wait a bit, just to make sure everything is ok. - wipeoutAspirantNow can enable RSYNC using the beta - I have a few shares backing up to one /archives share via RSYNC...
It works fine if running the backup manually, but does not seem to run on a schedule? ):
Anyone else having same prob?
EDIT - actually, its not removing deleted files. :?
