ReadyNas NV RND4000 Booting stalled post UPS failure

Hi, Wonder if anyone can advise please. Been a long time lurker on the forum and a long time user of the ReadyNAS (its branded Infrant!)

Apologies if this information is located elsewhere...I did search and only found the following thread that was similar but where the fix was not published

http://www.readynas.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=77416

Last night my UPS died suddenly and my NAS went offline. :( I disconnected the UPS power to the NAS last night and this morning I connected it up powering directly from the plug. I powered it back on and it all looked normal to start with, started to boot etc. However checking 5 minutes later whether I could access my files I found that it was inaccessible. When I looked all the disk LEDs are fully lit but the blue power LED is pulsating slowly. It has been like this ever since. Periodically (about 40 seconds) the blue power LED will stop pulsing with it illuminated for about 2 seconds shortly followed by the ACT light flashing once then the cycle starts over again.

At first I thought it might be doing a filesystem check and resync but the ACT light is not flashing as I would expect so suspect there is something wrong. RAIDar can find the NAS and all looks ok except on the far right it says - File System Check, 100%. Which would suggest it has done this and does not seem to be able to move on.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have an Netgear ReadyNas NV+ as well which gets mirrored every week via backups to it. Typically the power on, power off schedule for the NV+ got out of sync over the last couple of weeks so last couple of weeks worth of files are not backed up. Nothing super critical mind you and nothing I would be overly concerned about loosing but still a pain.

I didn't want to try anything drastic just yet until I got some advise. All advise will be greatly received, thanks

You could try booting skipping the filesystem check, though that is not without some risk.

Have you tested the disks to see if they are bad?
  • I might give that a go. What are the risks with skipping the file system check? Whilst I am not massively concerned about the data it will be a PITA to copy it all back over from the other NAS. If I can avoid having to do any of that it would be preferable.

I don't think disk check is available on the NV's which are v1. The only other option is to remove them and put them in the other NAS. Again not quite ready to do that yet given I don't want to inadvertently screw up my backup in the process
  • Bit the bullet and went for skipping the file system check on boot (Held down the power button for about 5 seconds until all disk LEDs flashed once) It has now booted up and I can access my files once again! :D

Logged into Frontview now and it advised to do a file system check.

It is now doing a resync (3%) as expected after a unexpected power off...

Just goes to show how reliable this thing has been over the past 8 years as never had any major issues with it. Now to source a new UPS which has been equally reliable until last night!

Anyway...will wait for the resync to complete and then reboot so it can complete the filesystem check.

Many thanks for your help mdgm!
