ReadyNAS NV shuts down when UPS is unplugged

My ReadyNAS NV (yeah, it's an antique) is reporting the following for UPS status:

APC Back-UPS ES 550, Battery charge: 100%, 17 minutes

But when I turned off the UPS the other day....the NAS turned off immediately. I haven't done a full test on the UPS yet (APC recommends you plug in a hair dryer and see if it keeps going when you turn off the UPS) but I was wondering if this is a known issue with the ReadyNAS NV? It's running firmware: RAIDiator 4.1.13 [1.00a043]

Thanks!

How did you turn off the UPS? If you turned it off in a way that cut the battery then the NAS is going to turn off immediately.

Also, what are the settings in Frontview for how quickly the NAS will shutdown in the event of a power failure?
  • Thanks for the reply! I think this *might* be user error....I hit the power switch on the UPS (as opposed to unplugging it). Does that kill the battery as well? If so I am going to feel pretty silly...

In Frontview, the NAS is set to shutdown on battery threshold: "Auto" (see http://www.evernote.com/shard/s92/sh/0d ... 1d79496958). I don't see any other options as to how long the NAS should run after a UPS failure.

Turning the UPS off would mean that it stops using the battery till you turn the UPS on again. I agree it sounds like user error.

Oops, I think only with APC SMART UPS units (well at least out of the APC range) there is the ability to customise the battery threshold.
