ReadyNAS NV+ v2 and Samsung D3

Hi

I've just bought a 4tb Samsung D3 to backup my NAS. It is USB2/3 and works perfectly with my USB2 laptop but I can't get the ReadyNAS to recognise it.

I don't really want to have to backup via my laptop so can anybody offer suggestions as to how I can get it to work directly with the ReadyNAS?

Thanks

Ian

  • The latest - 5.3.11. The NAS recognises that a disk is connected but when I try to backup I get the following error:

    Job: Full to USB
    Protocol: local
    Source: [c]/
Destination: [USB Device (Rear Top Port)]/

Backup failed. Sat Oct 25 12:50:07 GMT 2014.

    Reason for failure:
The backup destination is a non-existent local share.

Can you write files to the disk mounting the network share for the USB drive on your PC?

If not, does it work with the other rear port?

Does it work with the front port?
  • Aha, it seems to be working in the front port. I hadn't realised there was any difference between front and rear capabilities. If it works in the front is it likely to work in the bottom rear?

    Thanks

The rear ports are USB3 and the front is USB2.

It sounds like your USB drive may be incompatible with the USB3 ports on the NV+ v2.

Which is why the NAS (and many pc's) have both USB-2 and USB-3 ports.
