ReadyNas Pro 6 + Which Hard Disks?
I prices are getting low enough that I can finally get a RNP6. I just missed a really good deal on NewEgg that I read about in the forums; if it comes back i will grab one. I expect the prices to drop as this is nearing the lifecycle for this product line. So, the question, which disks to get? Are these good choices? Just looking at the specs they have the longest warranty with the most cache, and a 6Gb/s interface.

- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredBoth of these require RAIDiator 4.2.16 or newer. If you get a NAS with older firmware, put one disk in, update to latest firmware, verify update completed then do a factory default with all disks in place.
The SeaGate disk is an enterprise disk and an excellent choice if your budget permits.
If on a smaller budget the WD RED which is designed for NAS use in 1-5 bay systems (though should work fine in a 6-bay and it's a qualified disk) is a good choice. - ccc1997AspirantThe Seagate disk states that a specific firmware needs to be used; can I upgrade the firmware (if needed now or in future) easily while installed into a RNP?

No. You need to do that on a PC (or an x86 Mac, using the Seagate boot CD).ccc1997 wrote: The Seagate disk states that a specific firmware needs to be used; can I upgrade the firmware (if needed now or in future) easily while installed into a RNP? - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredThe compatibility list talks about NAS firmware requirements for that disk, not disk firmware. In 4.2.16 support for 3TB disks was added. Yes you would need to have at least one 3TB disk installed to update the firmware.
