ReadyNas RND4000 V3 missing volumes

Okay, I hope someone has more sense than me because I'm lost.

I have a ReadyNas NV+ V1 (RND4000 V3) with 4 x 2GB disks.
I have had a perfectly working NAS for quite a while, but since a few days, the NAS file system was unreachable (via media streamers and via Windows).

I logged onto the web interface, and saw the following:
under Volumes:
Disk space: 0 MB (0%) of 0 MB used
Available Disks:
Ch : Hitachi HDS722020ALA330 [8 MB] 0 MB free
Ch : SAMSUNG HD204UI [8 MB] 0 MB free
Ch : SAMSUNG HD204UI [8 MB] 0 MB free
Ch : SAMSUNG HD204UI [8 MB] 0 MB free

Under Shares however, my shares and their disk allocation was still recognized:
Shares:
DVDs 4925173mb used
Software 48077mb used
Photos 336113mb used
Backup 45950mb used

Under the Health Status:
Status - Health
Device Description Status
Disk Hitachi HDS722020ALA330 0 GB , 35 C / 95 F , Write-cache ON OK
Disk SAMSUNG HD204UI 0 GB , 32 C / 89 F , Write-cache ON OK
Disk SAMSUNG HD204UI 0 GB , 30 C / 86 F , Write-cache ON OK
Disk SAMSUNG HD204UI 0 GB , 28 C / 82 F , Write-cache ON OK
Fan 1 2586 RPM OK
Temp 1 32.0 C / 89 F [Normal 0-60 C / 32-140 F] OK

(note the existence of the FAN). When looking at the NAS via RAIDar:
Using RAIDar 4.3.8:
Displays valid MAC address
Cannot see the model (shows --)
Volume Status: Not present
Disk Status: Not Present
Fan Status: Not Present

So RAIDar thinks that there are no disks, no volumes and no fan.

Something is up (I would guess firmware wise) with the NAS. I really hope I have not lost my data. It should be there.

My question:
1) Are there any recovery steps I could take?
2) Can I directly transfer my RAID array to a different NAS: either a newer NetGear, or another make (I also have 2 Thecus RAIDs and an Iomega).

nb: I use Windows.. I not that experiences with Unix/Linux, but if I have to perform some commands on the device itself, I can (not a total noob).

Help?
thanks in advance
Alex

    1) we have paid recovery options for looking into issues like this
    2) The RAID format is different. We do have a last resort procedure for data recovery using our latest ReadyNAS models.

Do you have SSH access? Have you downloaded the logs (see link in my sig)?
  • Hi,
I have been trying to find logs, but there is nothing.
I also cannot SSH into the NV+ because I didn't install the SSH module (or enable SSH).
When I try to do that now (either load the SSH module, or any firmware), I just get en error that the image is invalid.
    Any further ideas?

I do not know what support costs, or how (or if) you can help.

I'm wondering about purchasing another NV+ (or maybe a better one if that is possible). Could use the same disk array (disks in the same order) and access the existing data array on another NAS device from Netgear?

This issue appears to be at least partially software related. Moving the disks to another chassis will not solve the problem.

If you contact support (see the Contact Us page on support.netgear.com) they would let you know about support costs.
