Readynas to pc and internet connection

Hi All

Apologies if this is in the wrong place, first time. I hope someone can help me.

This is the setup.

PC is connected to the Internet via wifi (cannot run any network cables)

I have connected the ReadyNAS RN31400 to the PC's nic with a Ethernet cable (only one nic on the pc)

I can access the ReadyNAS - all good.

question. - how do i get the ReadyNAS to connect to the Internet?

Before anyone says connect it directly to the router i cannot, and not possible at the moment.

i have looked and researched and i cannot find a way.

Appreciate any help with this.

  • Hi All

    Thank you for replying i really appreciate it. i did find a solution. But first only fair to answer the questions;

*the router is downstairs front room, at the moment i cannot run a cable to the upstairs backroom where i use my computer.

*not appropriate at the moment to keep the nas near the router as i do not have space and sockets.

*im using a pc windows 10

any as StephenB mentioned - i shared my wifi connection with the Ethernet connection and works great, i did not even know it possible .. i did try it a few times did not work, but after resetting and then trying again it worked. and is working great.

Can you explain more?  Are you saying that

    1. you don't have physical access to the router?
    2. the router doesn't have any ethernet ports?
    3. there's not enough space near the router for the NAS?
    4. something else???

Also, is this a Windows PC or a Mac?  What version of Windows or MacOS are you running?

      And Powerline networking.

Internet connection sharing is also an option with a Windows PC (not sure about MacOS).

Still, connecting it to the router is preferrable, so it would be helpful to get more details on why that can't be done.
