Readynas Ultra 6 boot problem

This could be a power supply issue. The display will say "ReadyNAS" with just +5V available. The drive spinning up and fans on indicate you have the main 12V. But there is a secondary 12V and a 3.3V bus that could have an issue. If you have a spare ATX power supply (or can borrow one from a computer), you can connect it externally to the NAS and see if that fixes it. If the temparary supply doesn't have the necessary 3 4-pin Molex connectors, it shouldn't matter since you only have one drive currently installed.

Sorry for the late response.
I tried the following:
From an old PC i removed the adaptor and connected it to the NAS.
the only connection i made was with the 24 pin connector.
So i did't connect the HDD.
The fan for the case starts spinning and only on the display 'readynas'.
I left it running for about 5 minutes. Nothing changed.
I also changed the memory, but this also nothing changed.
Still only on the display 'readyNas'
This could suggest a PSU issue.
You must also connect the square 4-pin connector, which supplies CPU power, at a minimum. But connecting everything and completely disconnecting the original supply is the only proper way to see if the power supply is the issue. It is unknown what load unpowered drives will place on the remainder of the chassis. You can leave the drives out, if you like. I believe you should get a "No Drive" indication on the display.

So I connected the HDD.
Nothing changed.
The square 4-pin connector of the adapter I found hanging around in the case.
There is no scoket found on the motherboard for the square 4-pin connector !?
My bad. You are correct. Unlike the other 6-bay legacy ReadyNASes, the Ultra6 does not use that connector.
Unfortunately, that eliminates the power supply as the cause and your other options are limited. That and the memory, which you have also replaced, are pretty much the only user-servicable parts (not that Netgear considers them that). I've not hooked up the VGA cable to an Ultra6, so can't help you determine if you connected it correctly. Assuming you did, lack of detection of any VGA signal by your monitor is also a bad sign.
Sadly, I believe it is time you look for a replacement.
