Replacing Pro Pioneer Motherboard. Is it worth it?
My Pro Pioneer recently died. After turning it on (power switch on the back) you get no activity at all except some feeble flashing on the LAN1 LEDs.
After some troubleshooting, I 'm thinking the PSU is fine. So, maybe I'm looking at a motherboard replacement.
My question is: Is it worth it? Is the motherboard replacement on a Pro Pioneer cheap enough vs. buying a newer unit?
Anyone has done it before?

- chirpaLuminaryTake a look at this thread, he tried replacing it: viewtopic.php?p=387117#p387117
- Hi chirpa
I was thinking more along the lines of buying a spare motherboard from netgear, if they sell them at all. Haven't asked yet.
Another option would be to buy a diskless unit on ebay, but the prices are rather high in the ones I have seen so far. - chirpaLuminaryNTGR doesn't sell individual parts like that.
- Thanks
I'll keep an eye on eBay. If anyone has a motherboard lying around, I'm interested. - chirpaLuminaryYou may want to contact mikefazz from that other thread I linked. He is probably your best bet, since he replaced his board, his old one may be available to buy.
- Marto731AspirantTo D-Doming,
When was your NAS bought? Do you know if it is in warranty. ?
You could put in an online ticket quoting serial #, and purchase date, to check.
An individual spare motherboard cannot be bought from Netgear.
Regards Marto - chirpaLuminaryHis profile says he joined May 10 2009, and he bought the system before that time (easy to determine by his initial posts).
And since its a Pioneer, it would only have 3 year warranty, versus 5 year on the Business Edition.
So it is long out of warranty already (+365 days). Unless Support wants to honor an extended grace period RMA. - Indeed, my warranty expired long ago. Besides, as a search of my posts will show, I have done quite some tinkering with the readynas. Maybe I can get some extra credit for R&D effort :D ...
- chirpaLuminaryIf I was still at NTGR, I would have hooked you up. But not many left there that care to do that. I'll check around though.
Either way, good luck with Mike. - siignaNETGEAR Employee RetiredI'm sure I can dig one up, I've got some spares laying around but don't really have time to test them. If you're okay with tinkering I can ship you one, just PM me an address.
