RMA'ed Drive Swap - Got a Different drive back not on HCL
I just did an RMA swap for a dead drive on my ReadyNAS NV+v2. I sent in to Netgear Returns a Western Digital WD10EARS with a 64 MB cache which was supplied by Netgear when I got the unit. As an RMA return I got a Seagate Barricuda ST31000520AS (Netgear Part Number 245-10027-01 - Description 1.0TB SATA / 8MB Cache ST31000520AS *BGRADE*). This drive is NOT on the compatibility list for the ReadyNAS NV+v2, it is a refurb, which I kind of expected, and what's with the 8 MB cache? I sent in a 64 MB cache drive. Does this seem right? Has anyone else had this experience?

- chirpaLuminaryI would contact support. You should get equal or better replacement, not lower class. Should also be something on the HCL.
- StephenBGuru - Experienced UserI think the cache size is actually 32 GB (http://www.seagate.com/staticfiles/supp ... 64361e.pdf)
Also, the Seagate seems to perform a bit better in this review: http://www.behardware.com/articles/799- ... rives.html
Though I agree it should be on the HCL,and if you are not satisfied you should contact support again. - NV_v2AspirantThanks for the quick replies Chirpa & StephenB. I did contact support, spoke to a tech named Jeff who said that there was a supply issue at the warehouse. He was going to escalate my issue.
Stephen, thanks for the info on the Seagate drive, it actually looks like a decent drive compared to the WD I currently have. My only concern is if there is another hardware issue and the drives are not on the compatibility list (even though Netgear provided the drives) will I be denied support? Strangely enough the Western Digital WD10EARS is not on the NV+v2 compatibility list either, yet I got the unit direct from Netgear. Who knows? I just would feel a little more secure knowing the drives are on the compatibility list.
Thanks for your input guys. I am going to wait for support to get back to me and see what they have to offer. Maybe someone on here can advise me what to do once I know.
