RN102 write performance
I have been looking at 3 different NAS recently and trying to decide which one to get. I really like the RN102 because of btrfs however in some tests the write performance seems to be horrible. In par...

To be fair to the RN102, it has a lot going on at the OS level, due to its use of BTRFS on top of Linux, so performance at times is not the best when compaired to devices that use more basic file systems. The real issue is do you think you will gain in anyway from any of the other features that are included (such as snapshot).
I use a RN104 (4 disks in RAID 5) and again it can be slow at certain tasks due to the processor and available memory, the performance issue I see seems to be the proccessing power required to handle the RAID 5 configuration and things like RSYNC. I also use a RN314 in a work environment that has a lot more CPU power (and memory) which does not show the same types of issues.
You should check the price of RN104 in your area, I can currently purchase the RN104 at a cheaper price than the RN102 in the UK.
I would say that you should just accept the setup time of coping the files across. BTRFS has a lot of features that should allow general access and updates to operate well over the long term. This is often something often overlooked in reviews which focus more on the setup process.
