RN316 user considering EDA500

Hello all!

I'm new to the forums here. I own a RN316 and am looking to expand with an EDA500-100 as my ~18Tb is getting close to full of 1080p's. I have read several posts here on the forums and various random Google's about expansion and am dismayed. I was sold on the idea by NetGear that I could have 16 disks in a single volume (rn316+ 2x eda500's),1 drive, 1 array, with redundancy, but everything I've read says i cannot, or should not, do this. I am the only user of the Xraid-2 volume save the scant chance the TV is streaming along with my PC. The messages I have seen range from "you will destroy your array" to "you will get a performance hit over the gigabit connection." As the single user I care less about a performance hit than a complete loss of 2000+ movies. I seek the answer to a couple questions here on the forums:

1) Can I have rn316 + 2x EDA500's as a single volume giving me ~64Tb?
2) Is there a greater risk of corruption from running a volume this way?
3) Is the fear and nay-saying solely around a performance loss?
4) Is that performance loss not great enough to stream movies to a single source?

As I've said I've seen these question answered in a variety of ways but my questions are succinct in relation to the responses given.

    1) That would be a very bad idea. If it was done and if you accidentally disconnected one of the EDAs you would expose yourself to data loss. How do you intend to backup such a volume?
    2) Yes
    3) No

If your data is important to you, you must back it up. No important data should be stored on a single device.

    Welcome to the forum!

If your movies are categorized and sorted into folders, then there is no reason to have a single 64 TB volume in the first place.
