RN516 and printing to an HP LaserJet 4P.
Using ReadyNAS 516 with OS Vers 6.2.2 and wish to print from the NAS to an old printer HP LaserJet 4p.
The NAS box only uses USB connections, and the LJ 4P has either Centronics or RS232C connections.
Has anybody used an 'USB to Centronics' OR an 'USB to RS232' cable and got it to work?
Please do NOT reply saying the LJ 4P is 'old hat'. It is still the best quality and reliable B/W printer I have ever had.
Yes I know all modern printers are USB ... so what. I am very reluctant to pay out money to get something which is not as good as the current 'old' printer.
It just sits there and prints when required ... and prints ... and prints.
Thanks in advance for your help!

- RXLuminaryUSB ports of the RN516 only supports external hard drives and flash drives.
You may want to open an online case to Netgear Support and inform them to include your concern as feature request for the ReadyNAS OS 6 models: https://my.netgear.com/registration/login.aspx - BaJohnVirtuoso

I thought the RN516 supported printing!
The only other ports are eSATA, LAN and HDMI.
What am I missing here?
BJ - RXLuminaryIt does only support USB backups to/from external storage devices. Kindly check the data sheet: http://netgear.com/images/pdf/ReadyNAS_ ... 700_DS.pdf

The response was that there is NO PLAN to have printing available from the new ReadyNAS OS 6.
They have discussed it since 2012/13 when OS6 was released.
I thought that printing was a feature of the previous versions, so WHY remove a feature?
It was one of the reasons that I bought the RN516, as I had seen reviews of previous products and thought that the latest product would be better, NOT take away one of the features that I specifically wanted.
Presumably those people currently printing from a previous OS will find that the printing just does not work on upgrade.
BJ - You can install CUPS (which is the linux package you need). It is in super-poussin's drop box (viewtopic.php?f=153&t=70914).
Its not a service I use or need, so if you have issues with it someone else would need to help. - BaJohnVirtuoso

Hello again Stephen ... having responded to my other post, the above gladdens my heart ... some good news at last.
I current use CUPS with all of the household just printing to the default printer which is CUPS driven from my Ubuntu Pentium 3 system.
I set it up years ago and it just works and works and works. I like things like that. I will give it a go, thanks.
Can I close these posts so that nobody else can contribute, or is that not a good idea (I am new to these forums)
BJ - I can lock it, but generally we leave them open.
- BaJohnVirtuosoLeave it open then.

No I did it with a 'chat' on their web page.
The lady I 'spoke' to was very definite, and knew straight away that this HAD been discussed a while ago, on more than one occasion, and had definitely been 'rejected'. To me it seemed like 0 % chance of it being implemented.
However, I am new to ReadyNAS and have no idea what politics/pressure can be brought to bear on what is essentially a 'simple' software engineering problem (implemented in most other OSs). Maybe it could be made to happen. I am one little person who spent a lot of time trying to find the best solution to his problem, spent a lot of money on it, only to find it does not do some of the basic fundamental functions one would take for granted. If I sound slightly cheesed, it is because I am.
Am I the first person to 'want' a printing facility that has mentioned this in the forum?
