Seagate ST3000DM001, Ultra 6 Plus, and the HCL

For the last few months I've been considering buying another Ultra 6 Plus unit, this time using 6x3TB drives rather than 2TB drives as I'm using now.

What has been holding me back is the fact that none of the supported 3TB drives in the HCL are available in Ireland.

I have noticed that the Seagate ST3000DM001 it's available and reasonably priced, but it is not listed in the HCL for any Readynas Ultra. It is however listed for the ReadyNAS NVX.

I've seen a couple of posts from people using these hard drives in ReadyNAS Ultra units without problems however if I am to spend this amount of money I'd really need Netgear to confirm they are supported.

Hence my wait - I've been regularly checking the HCL for a few months with the hope of seeing some update. But there has been none.

Which, after all this time, it can only mean : (1) Netgear are not testing these drives or (2) They have tested them, and found them not reliable enough.

I assume Netgear understand how important the HCL is for prospective buyers, so I can't imagine they are not testing new drives. So the reasonable conclusion would then be (2).

Would it be possible to get some confirmation either way? I know the HCL doesn't currently list drives tested but not supported - but if it did, at least customers would know whether they just need to wait (drives not yet tested, or currently being tested) or move on (drives were tested, but failed). The current situation is really, really frustrating; and I have no doubt it is really damaging ReadyNAS sales right now.

Same here, I'm about to buy a NAS but I need to know which of the current 3TB drives it support (mentioned several models here, although I happen to be more ReadyNAS NV+ v2 oriented).

If situation (2) is indeed the case, if would be great if Netgear specifies this on their HCL as well. I.e. not just the drives that passed the test, but also explicitly mentioning the drives that failed, so we know which drives to avoid (or at least know we're taking an extra risk when using them anyway).
