Service Action to Prevent PSU Failures in ReadyNAS NV/NV+
A Service Action notice has been posted in the Announcement forum to prevent ReadyNAS NV and NV+ systems from premature power supply failures at viewtopic.php?t=10259. If you own a NV or NV+ within the serial number range in the notice, please either download and install the add-on or perform the simple fan reversal procedure. We've seen a small percentage of our customers experiencing power supply failure and we want to avoid any downtime you may encounter due to an unnecessary RMA process.

- kirmAspirantThis is bloody ridiculous! I had to RMA mine over a bad NIC and they sent me an old (probably "refurbished") one that has this problem. Man that's rich.
This lousy unit hasn't worked right from day one. It's unreliable, slow and generally a pain in the butt. I finally get to RMA it and they send me some old unit that they probably had an RMA on years ago. Beautiful!
That's what 1500 bucks buys you today I guess. :x
NEVER, EVER, AGAIN NETGEAR!
I'm lining up a QNap TS-509 Pro and I'd sue Netgear if I figured it was worth the trouble. - fludorfAspirantHi,
I have a ready NAS NV+ which seems to be within the serial nr range specified above. I installed the plugin a while ago.
Today my NAS died. I assume its the power supply as there is zero sign of life when I plug it in and try to power it up.
What can I do? - dbott67GuideCall support for your area.

You won't find much in Fremont. We moved to San Jose last year. ;) And I wouldn't have any PSUs to swap with in the office, I have to do an RMA just like you when I need a replacement.yukit wrote: I was hoping that I can just drive to Fremont across the bay to exchange the PSU like my friend did, but I have to send the PSU to Memphis.
I got my replacement PSU last week, but did not get around to installing it till yesterday.
Everything came up fine, did the volume scan on reboot as well; no errors.
Only regret was that I put it back together in a hurry so I forgot to swap the RAM with a 512MB stick, but it is no big loss since I am using the NAS as a simple file server. I run SlimServer from another PC.
Most of my networking equipment is Netgear (including a few blue-metal-box switches I have had for several years) I have had the power supply adapters go bad a few times, but Netgear support has been pretty good.
I also like Logitech for their support. They have done beyond the normal policy fixing/replacing failed products. - kcgr1AspirantAdd another victim to the dead PS brigade. I called the help line and after being bounced around a bit, I talked to some one who knew of the bad serial number range (that I was in). To Netgear's credit, they shipped out a new PS. The little fuss I had was that I think the PS sat in the warehouse and they forgot to ship it. A followup phone call got it shipped out overnight. Anyhow, my unit is back in action and my wife is happy she can get to her cad files. It also looks like my plan of having a USB backup drive for the NAS is now on the front burner. Thank you, Netgear!!!
- ixianAspirantCan anyone tell me what I can do hear? My ReadyNAS NV (not the plus) from 2006's PSU appears to have died - it won't power on at all, not even for a moment (I don't have the auto-power addon installed).
I called ReadyNAS/Netgear support (I'm in the US) and appear to have gotten an Indian call center. I don't mean to be rude or play in to stereotypes about Indian Call centers but these guys were of no help at all. They kept telling me I could buy a power supply at the store (what?) or from them. They also couldn't tell me the part number of the PSU after I gave them the serial number and told me I needed the p/n number as well - it's at home, and this is after being on hold for 45 minutes waiting for them.
I am beyond frustrated. Can anyone suggest what to do next? My case number is 953-0485. - tempus6AspirantOh what a pain. The Indian call center cant even find my serial number in their system. They said it needs more digits. Guess I will try email support.
- chirpaLuminarytempus, PM me what you have for your serial number.
- chuwrightAspirantHi, my NV+ was purchased in March 2007, and has a serial number in the range. I understand the unit is out of warrenty, however can I have the PSU replaced as part of this scheme? I've tried raising a electronic service request, but the serial number isn't valid, I've also tried contacting UK support, but repeatedly get a message stating all lines are busy and to try again later. Any assistance you can offer would be appreciated. Thanks...
- chirpaLuminarychu, PM (private message) me your serial number so I can take a look.
