Swapping Network Card - 10GbE for CX4

I have a ReadyNAS 4220 that came with a dual port 10 Gigabit Ethernet card, I need to replace it with the CX4 add-on card.

I've replaced the card, but I am not seeing the ports in ifconfig nor the frontview interface.

I guess I need to update the kernel or install the ixgbe driver?

I'm savvy to compiling kernels and modules for Linux, but I am not clear on where to obtain the headers, since there aren't any provided when using the linux-headers-`uname -a` trick,

Linux SERVER 3.0.101.RNx86_64.3 #1 SMP Thu Dec 18 18:35:16 PST 2014 x86_64 GNU/Linux

If I upgrade to the latest version of ReadyNAS OS will the driver compile automatically?

I feel like it's sort of crazy that with so few addon card options, they all aren't included with the OS..

Thank you!

  • The card ended up being bad, I swapped it and after updating to 6.4.2 the new one was recognized immediately.

There was a major kernel upgrade in 6.4 so it could be the network drivers for that work with a wider range of hardware. Note that if you use your NAS with an unsupported hardware configuration you may run into issues.

  • I do want to state that the ixgbe driver is inclouded with 6.4.2 and was seemingly not in 6.2!

    6.2.2 is very old firmware.

The 4220 comes with 10GbE SFP+ or Copper depending on the model. The CX4 card is for the legacy 4200.
