Ultra 2 - dead ethernet ports(?)
Hi there,
I purchased a ReadyNAS Ultra 2 from ebay here in the UK.
The condition was said to be for parts / not working but that was generally because they couldn't test it.
It powers on but the network ports do not work - no LEDs on LAN 1 or 2.
Both drives are blank as I've done a factory reset on the device by holding the reset button in for a long period of time after turning it on with it pressed in already.
I've tried a direct connection on both ports and have tried forcing the lan port on my laptop to be 10Mbps half duplex and full duplex. I have also made sure it's a static address in the 192.168.168.0 subnet.
Nothing, nada, no lights and no connection in a web browser and the computer says network cable is not plugged in.
Does anyone have any ideas? Other than bin it and get something else?!
Has anyone replaced the ethernet ports in their readynas before? I hear they are soldered in but I'm not afraid of a soldering iron.
Many thanks in advance.
Simon

- vandermerweMasterIf both are not working it is probably a bigger problem than just the lan ports.
"... because they couldn't test it." I hope you did not believe the seller in the hope you could get it working. The forums are littered with postings from people buying second hand readynas devices from ebay. It doesn't seem like a good idea, even for parts, as you have no idea which parts are working and which are not.
Are the drives at least ok? - I suspect binning (or reselling for parts) is in your future.
Though you could try powering up with no disks - RAIDar should see the NAS on the network, and say "no disks" or some such.
Running a memory test might also be worthwhile.
The boot menu is on page 12-13 here: http://www.readynas.com/download/docume ... pril11.pdf - mr_siAspirantHi both and thank you for your reply.
The disks are mine - it was sold as just an empty box, basically. I can't connect to the device to even see the boot menu unfortunately, which is where my problem lies. I shall probably get rid of it as a lesson learned. - The boot menu is driven from the lights/buttons - not the web. RAIDar would only tell you that the NAS is on the network and has no disks.
There's a small chance that the problem is the power brick. If you have one that is compatible, it might be worth a shot. If you want to throw more money into this well, you could buy one on-line.
