ULTRA2: USB 3.0 HDD only works on USB2.0 port and not USB3.0
Hi,
very curious thing!
I just bought an ReadyNAS Ultra2. I bought it specifically for the USB 3.0 port, because the ultra2 is the only model with 1 USB 3.0 port on the frontside.
However, I have the following issue:
-my IOmega Blackbelt 1Tb USB 3.0 HDD is only recognized on the USB 2.0 ports on the back and not recognized in the USB 3.0 front port
As a result, I can not make fast backups to the USB 3.0 HDD, but only via USB 2.0.... :(
I have tested other USB 2.0 HDD and USB 2.0 flash and these all work (Western Digital passport 500 Gb and Kingston flashdrive).
Is this a hardware issue or a firmware issue?
Any suggestions?

How new a model is your USB3 enclosure? - silvercueAspirantHi, I hope it is not bad form to post into older threads (apologies if it is, I can start a new one if that is better).
I have been using the Radynas Ultra 2 for some time and generally very happy with it. I have recently got a USB 3.0 drive to use and it is not recognized by the front USB port (which is a problem others in this thread have had).
The drive is a Samsung slimline M3 3 TB which draws power from USB. It shows up if I put it in one of the USB ports on the back of the Nas.
I have updated firmware on NAS to 4.2.27 which I think is the latest.
Any ideas?
Thanks - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredIf you download your logs (Status > Logs > Download all logs) what is the date in bios_ver.log ?

Thanks for responding:
The text states: 09/08/2010 ReadyNAS-ProUltra2 V1.4 - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredThere is a newer BIOS for it: http://www.readynas.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=387035#p387035
- silvercueAspirantThanks. I have installed that add on and now bios shows as: 11/02/2011
However, still no difference. USB port at the front (USB 3.0 one) is not acknowledging drives attached. - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredPerhaps the USB drive is incompatible. How many different USB drives have you tried?

I have tried 2. I have another and will try that when I get back from work and report back.mdgm wrote: Perhaps the USB drive is incompatible. How many different USB drives have you tried?

OK I have tried 3 USB devices. They work in the 2 rear USB drives (the USB 2.0 ones) but non are recognized in the front USB 3.0 slot.
Models are Freecom, Samsung and WD - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredWhat about a USB flash key? Is that recognised?
