Upgrade Disk Firmware via ReadyNAS?
Forgive my ignorance, but if I purchased a couple of Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 ST2000DM001 drives for my NV+.v2, am I able to upgrade the CC4H firmware by simply connecting my ReadyNAS to a Windows-based laptop connected via USB?

- gibxxiGuideAs StephenB has already said, it's not important if Windows can see/access the drives or not, since firmware updating cannot be done while Windows is running anyway. As long as the system's BIOS detects the drives, that is sufficient. The "Windows" version of the firmware updater is actually a command-line tool. Can't remember off the top of my head whether it's DOS or Linux, but running the tool will signal Windows to shut down, the computer then reboots to apply the update.
Doing the update simply changes the operating firmware on the BIOS chip on the drive itself. No data is accessed or modified during this proceedure. But it may be wise to back up the content of drive(s) you wish to update incase the worst happens.
The update tool is also safe to run on a system with multiple drives of differing makes/manufacture present. The tool will correctly identify which drive(s) require the firmware update, and only attempt to update those affected drive(s).
You could alternatively download the ISO version of the update and use a CD/RW (so as not to waste a disk) and burn the ISO to that, totally side-stepping the need to load windows or run the "Windows" version of the update. This may be preferable for people with more than one drive to flash.
