Upgrade to Quieter coolers on rackmont ready nas model RN 3138.

I bought on Amazon the ready nas RN 3138. I found it a little noisy. Would there be a way to replace the coolers with a quieter model? It comes equipped with 3 12V, 3 pin, 40x20mm coolers model MGT4012XB-O20. This cooler has 10.46 CFM (0.26 CMM) and a noise level of 33.7 dB (a) each. My first thought was to exchange it for a noctua, but they have less than half of the air flow. Any other suggestion?

  • I believe that would void the warranty - though if you purchased it used, it wouldn't matter (since the warranty is not transferable).

I bought it from Amazon in the US, but I'm from Brazil, so I believe that the guarantee does not apply. In addition, it seems that during shipping the heatsink came loose, and ended up damaging a capacitor, which I soldered in place and that alone must have void the warranty anyway.
  • The case is fairly obviously made by Chenbro, so you can Google for any suggestions for their 1U chassis.  A lot of Chenbro's newest ones use a single large squirrel cage fan instead of the multiple 40mm ones, but I doubt you could fit that in.  The only quiet 40mm one I am aware of is the Noctua NF-A4x20, which I suspect is the one you are talking about because it only has about 5CFM capability.
