Upgrading HHD
Howdy,
just trying to figure this out, and am not sure if this is normal
I'm currently upgrading my 3TB HDD's in my Readynas314 to 8TB HDD. Raid 5
All the reading I've done tells me to replace 1 drive at a time and allow unit to resync before adding the next HDD, and once all the drives have been replaced to power off then power on and the extra drive space will be recognised.
So I started with 8.16 TB now after replacing 2 of the 3TB drives with 2 8TB drives I now have 12.67 TB showing as the volume size is this normal. As I didn't think the size would change until all the drives had been replaced.
Thanks

From memory when I did this myself, you start to see the space appear after the sync is complete (without a reboot - I think). Only one drive of largest capacity is reserved, so your results are probably to be expected.
Try the online configuratior and see what it says. I just tried and it shows exactly what you are seeing :)!

The volume size will expand when you add the second larger disk, and you are seeing the right volume size.
You will see a additional 5 TB (~4.5 TiB) increase when you replace each of the next two - giving you 24 TB (~21.8 TiB) total.
