WD My Book Essential 3TB USB 3.0 and NV+ v2
I naively bought a WD My Book Essential 3TB USB 3.0 (USB 2.0 compatible) for use as a backup drive for my NV+ v2 (with 3 x 3TB WD drives inside), having used a number of different USB 2.0 drives in the past successfully (2 x Samsung 1.5TB Story Stations, Buffalo 2.0 TB Just Store Desktop). Unfortunately the NV+ refuses to recognise the WD drive, either in the USB 3.0 ports or the front USB 2.0 port. The WD is formatted as NTFS, as were the other drives I have used.
I am currently using the WD drive as a backup via my iMac (connected using Gigabit Ethernet to the NAS), but it would be more convenient to use it directly with the NAS.
Has anyone successfully used this mainstream drive with an NV+ v2? Has anyone got any suggestions?

- ChewbaccaAspirantWe have not had any issues with this drive and we have just added it to our HCL. What version of firmware are you running on your NV+ V2?
- johnadukAspirantHi Thanks for replying so quickly. I have just checked and there was an update available. I thought I checked recently, but now I have now updated to 5.3.6 and still have problems with my WD drive. When I connected it to one of the rear USB ports, I got the "USB DISK CONNECT" message on the front of the unit, but the drive does not appear in the dashboard, or in Finder on my Mac. The same is true of the front USB port.
I have also noticed that ReadyNAS Remote has disappeared (although ReadyNAS Photos II has been updated) and no longer appears on the installed or available tabs? - ChewbaccaAspirantSorry I was incorrect.. That drive is not on the HCL. We are looking into that drive right now to see why there is a issue.
- johnadukAspirantGood; I look forward to hearing what the fix is :?
- lobomarinoAspirantI had the same problem with a WD My Book Essential 3TB USB 3.0 and my Duo v2, the disk wasn't recognized by the ReadyNAS. After seeing the hardware compatibilty list posted by Chewbacca on September 11, I got myself a Seagate Expansion USB 3.0/2.0 3TB Desktop Drive instead. But the RaedyNAS didn't recognize that one either. :(
As the Seagate Expansion 3.5" HDD is listed on the HCL and tested with the ReadyNAS Due v2, I wonder if the problem is related to the 3TB capacity...
Would this be solved in some future firmware version? I am currently running RAIDiator-arm-5.3.6 - lobomarinoAspirantI had the same problem with a WD My Book Essential 3TB USB 3.0 and my Duo v2, the disk wasn't recognized by the ReadyNAS. Any News?
Thanks in anticipation
J - ZaimAspirantI have the exact same issue, on the latest firmware.
- christi1AspirantI to can confirm this is still an issue.
- etonLuminaryWD ads more features to their external drives all the time. No one wants them. Try to download WDs management software and remove or set the fake boot CD to be inactive.
