WD2000FYYZ acting up?
I recently replaced a couple of drives in my Pro Pioneer (one at a time) that were showing problematic SMART values.
I first got a WD2003FYYS-02W0B1 that is on the HCL, but a couple of weeks later I got a WD2000FYYZ-01UL1B0 that is not. I guess the etailer discontinued the WD2003FYYS (like the old WD2002FYPS:s I have otherwise) and the WD2000FYYZ was the closest match. Oh well.
Both of them passed the disk test and were (eventually) incorporated in the RAID volume, but I've had some problems with resyncs freezing, even the initial ones, and other freezes like during rsync backup jobs (hence more resyncs). I'm currently on my, like, 4th attempt to get it up and running and passing a resync (it freezes at random percentages) after a frozen backup job that wouldn't cancel. I had to hard reset even though Frontview was technically responding, but not rebooting. Power switch wasn't shutting it down either.
Then again I've had problems like this on and off for a long time, with freezes, but I've always attributed them to maybe some of the addons I've been running (now disabled, but installed) or the actual SMART errors I discovered.
Now the NAS is almost at capacity, true, which might have something to do with these freezes. But I really don't feel it should have to be this unstable. I'm wondering what's wrong.
- Is the WD2000FYYZ causing an unnatural number of freezes?
- Is it the mix of these slightly different hard drives?
- Is the capacity of 92% the problem?
- Are the (disabled) addons a problem? Basically PHP and Transmission, plus a Wake on LAN addon.
- Is it maybe time to just factory reset this thing I've had for 3.5 years now? :)
- Or is there something else I can try to get it to start behaving?
I don't really need the data on it since I've migrated to my new Pro 6. I've just been keeping it around, doing some rsync backup jobs to it and switched out the drives that were going bad, basically getting it ready and stable enough to sell it.
I can't get the logs out of it at the moment since I'm trying to get it to champion through this resync.
So, since I don't really know what's wrong it was hard picking a forum section for this thread, but since it seems it did get even more fidgety with this latest drive I got I thought I'd place it here.
Any input is appreciated!
