What is different about these drives is that the first certification was done not by Netgear but by Western Digital in several ReadyNAS units as well as competing products. To my knowledge, these are the first consumer grade drives designed specifically for multi disk RAID arrays. Although WD initially certified the drives in the ReadyNAS Duo, Ultra 2 Plus, Ultra 4 and Pro 6, Netgear has certified the drive in a much wider range of ReadyNAS units including the Duo V2 but not the Duo (v1).
