Which backup method?
So there are two primary backup methods provided in frontview, for purpose of backing up my volume data. There is the so called "File Backup" and there is ReadyDR. I'm assuming my machine (524x) su...

Stephen thanks for this info, quick question I could not find on that other thread any reference to scripting you used to saved the rsync log files and rsync them back to the main NAS.???
I am definitely using your mod to autopoweroff now, thanks!
That being said, I am still getting some errors from my primary NAS that it could not complete an rsync backup job, at exactly the time that the backup NAS is set to turn off on power schedule. So what is the deal with the backup server..when it's receiving an rsync transfer from the primary NAS....I thought it was supposed to not power off if something is in progress, but somehow that appears to be happening unless I'm misunderstanding something.
Also another question I have is that I have 4 backup jobs and I want to make sure they are not running at the same time. Does the main NAS start them all at the same time if they have the same schedule? Or will it do them one at a time during that window? It's not entirely clear to me if I should schedule them each for different time windows throughout the night or if I can schedule them all to be 12:05am to 10pm or whatever,....none of them will take that long...but that is what I got from your other thread, that I should set the power to turn off at say 1am, start all the backups at 12:05 and run until as late as 10pm (I have power on happening at 11pm). And then if I understood you correctly, the power off should not happen on backup server if any rsync is in progress at the time it attempts to power off...and also if any maintenance tasks (with your mod to the script). Or I could just set my power off a little later, assuming that most of the time my backup will not take more than then an hour or two so that in-betweener case where it might power off in between one of those 4 backup jobs would not happen if I set power off maybe to like 3am or something. Lately they ahve been longer because I recently updated all my plex media with like 5TB of content and so it needed all night..thus the error I mentioned above...But I was curious why the backup server powered off at 9am, the time I currently have set...if there was still an rsync job in progress from the main NAS.

The NAS will not shut down if something it initiated is in progress (at least if you use StephenB 's mods). It will still shut down if something is reading or writing files to it (not mid-file, AFAIK, but at the first opportunity between files). That's why you need to use a "pull" when the backup is on a power schedule.

That makes sense, though I didn't realize until just now that I can setup a pull from the backup server. I will do that. Of course once I start doing various other backups of my desktops in the house...most likely they will all have to push...but get you.... the backup server will power down unless it has initiated a pull from another rsync host.
