"Connection failed" via Mac OS X

Running 1.0.9.78 on ReadyNAS Pro
Running 1.0.27 on Mac (Snow Leopard and Lion machines)
Running latest iPhone client

I've successfully completed installation of clients on Mac SL and Lion + iPhone, and successful installation and configuration on the ReadyNAS Pro.

On the iPhone side, I can log in and remotely access files. Wee!

On the Mac side, both SL and Lion, I can "Login" on my home network. I successfully "Connect to ReadyNAS..." and see my ReadyNAS device. When I double click on it, I get a "Connecting to Server" dialog with (what appears to me to be) a random IP address. After a delay of ~30-60 seconds, I get Mac OS X "Connection Failed" dialog.

My AFP permissions have Default Access disabled, with specific Write-Enabled users. I'm wondering if the problem is that the connection is failing due to lack of proper privileges? On the iPhone side, this is solved via FTP user login privileges, but there is no process I can see on the Mac side to log in via AFP as a specific user?

It could be that login via a specific AFP user will come up and I'm blocked by a more generic connection issue, but I figured I ask here. There is no "Connect As" in the window that comes up when I double click on my ReadyNAS server from the ReadyNAS Remote Mac app window.

Firstly in the properties for Remote on your Mac have you configured it to use CIFS or AFP?

Secondly after logging into Remote when you click to connect to your Mac you should be prompted to enter the credentials you would use if you were on the same LAN as the NAS.

Thirdly the 5.XXX.XXX.XXX IP address is the IP address of the NAS on the ReadyNAS Remote VPN.

Also are you testing this on the same LAN as the NAS or at a remote site?

So connections from the iPhone work fine?

I have found 1.0.27 to sometimes work for me and at other times not. There's still something not quite right with it, I think.
