End-of-Life Announcement for ReadyNAS Photos I
The ReadyNAS Photos I service, often referred as ReadyNAS Photos, the first generation of Photos sharing service for the ReadyNAS will be discontinued as of March 31, 2012. Many of you have enjoyed sharing photos straight from your ReadyNAS, and we continue to innovate and develop more advanced features in ReadyNAS Photos II, the follow-on to ReadyNAS Photos.
For those of you who are using ReadyNAS Photos on a ReadyNAS x86-based product (i.e. Ultra, Pro, NVX), you can migrate your ReadyNAS Photos data to Photos II. For those on ReadyNAS Duo and NV+ (v1, Sparc-based) systems, we will provide a means to migrate your Photos data to a ReadyNAS Duo v2 or NV+ v2 or any of the x86-based ReadyNAS. We are also working with ReadyNAS community developers to come up with an alternative photo sharing solution.
We apologize for any inconvenience to you.
Sincerely,
The ReadyNAS Team

- dvlstxAspirantI am very disappointed that this is being discontinued. Being able to host pictures from my house of our twins so my family can see them in other states has been invaluable. Now, that this is being discontinued, and no means to upgrade to a newer NAS, I am at a loss. I sincerely hope that either a new solution is developed for this wonderful service, or there is some way to make the DUO compliant with Photos II.
It broke my heart to see this announcement, knowing that I will have to find some other way to share 1000's of pictures with my extended family.
Please, please, please, try to come up with another solution, or find a way to make the DUO capable of handling Photos II. - synaps_o_danAspirantI too am deeply disappointed by this announcement. ReadyNAS Photo has been one of the driving reasons for me to buy a ReadyNAS Duo. I can't afford to upgrade to a x86 ReadyNAS and do hope that there will be a workaround that will enable DUO users to host and share photos-

- alex71168Aspirantwhen is netgear going to have readyNAS photos II for the readyNAS duo as they are shutting ReadyNAS photos down in march
- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredNetGear tried to port Photos II for Sparc ReadyNAS e.g. Duo v1 but failed. Have another read of the opening post in this thread for what NetGear is planning.
- bman12gaugeAspirantDoes anyone know when Netgear is going to have ReadyNAS Photos II for the ReadyNAS NV+ v1? Is there another program I can use that does this nice photo collaboration for sending out photo albums? I just purchased the NV+ v1 for this feature. Any suggestions or comments would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee Retiredbman12gauge read the thread. If you want Photos II if you've only just purchased it and your reseller accepts change of mind returns you should backup your data, return the unit and buy the v2 or an Ultra.
- xoxMAAspirantRecently tried to switch on Photos for my NV+ and I wouldn't even get my login registration done, until I found this... No back e-mails from the customer service, no nothing...
So you guys effectively stop the service for the older machines to force us spend serious extra $$$ to keep up with the software upgrade ? This is so hugely F^%$D UP that I'd bother to login and share my rage here.
Why wouldn't you let the people use the old service ? OR come up with some kind of solution BEFORE you launch Photos II and cut our balls off ? Unless you're prepared to to buy-out my old machine of course...
I got my NV+ with Photos working, as part of the package, and I claim it to work now ! Otherwise send my money back.
You've delivered a strong disrespect message to all your customers worldwide, THANK YOU VERY MUCH.
Do your job and fix the problem !!! - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredPlease don't post about issues with Photos I in this thread. Some people get alerts every time a post is made in an announcement thread. Open a new thread in the Photos I forum.
As I mentioned above:mdgm wrote: NetGear tried to port Photos II for Sparc ReadyNAS e.g. Duo v1 but failed. Have another read of the opening post in this thread for what NetGear is planning.
No one is happy with this situation but this had to happen eventually. Photos II is much improved over Photos I. Unlike Photos I, Photos II is completely managed via web-interface. For now Photos I should continue to work.
Once Photos I is End-of-Life'd you can migrate to a new ReadyNAS or use the community photos add-on that is being developed.
