End-of-Life Announcement for ReadyNAS Photos I
The ReadyNAS Photos I service, often referred as ReadyNAS Photos, the first generation of Photos sharing service for the ReadyNAS will be discontinued as of March 31, 2012. Many of you have enjoyed sharing photos straight from your ReadyNAS, and we continue to innovate and develop more advanced features in ReadyNAS Photos II, the follow-on to ReadyNAS Photos.
For those of you who are using ReadyNAS Photos on a ReadyNAS x86-based product (i.e. Ultra, Pro, NVX), you can migrate your ReadyNAS Photos data to Photos II. For those on ReadyNAS Duo and NV+ (v1, Sparc-based) systems, we will provide a means to migrate your Photos data to a ReadyNAS Duo v2 or NV+ v2 or any of the x86-based ReadyNAS. We are also working with ReadyNAS community developers to come up with an alternative photo sharing solution.
We apologize for any inconvenience to you.
Sincerely,
The ReadyNAS Team

- jksurferdadAspirantI am also disappointed that my ReadyNAS Duo is now incompatible with Photos after less than a year in service.
So, if I upgrade to an Intel architecture NAS like Ultra, what's to prevent Netgear from changing compatibility again in another few months?
I'm looking for a compelling reason to continue to buy Netgear products at this point. I feel abandoned by the company so far.
JK - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredPhotos II isn't being replaced by anything else any time soon. There is no reason to suggest that the Ultra will be incompatible with ReadyNAS Photos III (whenever that comes out - maybe several years away) at this time.

The Ultra units are x86 units. That's their primary platform now. Odds of them cutting it out are roughly 0%.
I hope someone finds a way to get Photos II working on SPARC. - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredIt's not open source so I doubt that. If NetGear had been able to get Photos II running satisfactorily on the Sparc units they would have made a Sparc add-on available. They did try to port it. As yoh-dah indicated in the opening post there will be a community add-on alternative solution for those who do not wish to migrate to a new ReadyNAS unit.
- SandraJShaw0AspirantThen what would happen to the previously hosted photos? Can we retrieve it if we will have to upgrade. Thanks but it seems that the old version is still the best.

**http://www.spacelightdigital.com/retouching_color.html | Color Correction** - steviekoAspirantI just wasted a lot of time setting this up and "training" my wife who wanted to use an online photo hosting service. Now I have to tell her I was wrong.
I've been defeated.
Why not make the old service available for folks to host the service on their own computer/network
or something to that effect...?
Perhaps make it open source if it's just going to get trashed?
Wishful thinking? - chirpaLuminaryPhotos I was run by a third-party company, we don't have the source to share it. It also relied on their server to provide access.
- steviekoAspirantIf mods are ok with it: Topic of alternatives posted here. Hopefully people will chime in on this.

- hoadie1AspirantThe announcement was made back in Feb, has a solution for SPARC devices been found yet? This was one of the selling points of the DUO for me so it's disappointing that a) the service has been discontinued and b) no solution has been forthcoming.
