I know I'm bringing this older post alive... but since I didn't see resolution and recently installed the WhoCares? MyPHPAdmin plugin myself on my ReadyNAS (albeit Ultra)... I did manage to figure out where this setting needs to be made is in /etc/phpmyadmin/config.inc.php. Just need to uncomment the line with AllowNoPassword and then you can login with root and no password.
