how to ssh non-root?

You do not void your warranty by using the add-on. The issue comes down to if you SSH in and break your data volume (mounting stuff, formatting, etc), and it is clear to tech support that you broke something, they may ask you to factory default (reset) before they can help you with an issue. For general usage like what you are planning to use, there is no issue.
