Well, as noted above the gateway address in the manual configuration could have been wrong.
Most routers let you reserve the IP address (leaving the NAS set to use DHCP, but always assigning it the same address). That is really the best approach. It ensures the NAS will continue to be accessible when/if you upgrade your router, and still gives you the ability to forward ports to a consistent address in the router. What router model do you have?
