Need help compiling Automatic for Duo
I found Automatic and want to use it with Transmission. I've gotten a lot of packages installed on my Duo to compile, but I'm stuck. Here is the error I'm getting:
Automatic is here

and here for support
http://forum.transmissionbt.com/viewtop ... f=1&t=5199
I figured this would be the best place to ask, since I'm wanting to compile on the Duo.
I search the web for a bin file of it or for instructions that someone already shared, but I had no such luck.
checking for LIBXML... configure: error: Package requirements (libxml-2.0 >= 2.6.31) were not met:
Requested 'libxml-2.0 >= 2.6.31' but version of libXML is 2.6.16
Consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if you
installed software in a non-standard prefix.
Alternatively, you may set the environment variables LIBXML_CFLAGS
and LIBXML_LIBS to avoid the need to call pkg-config.
See the pkg-config man page for more details.

- aresgodofwar30AspirantSo it sounds like I'd be better off selling the duo and getting a NAS that is more capable.
- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredProbably. The Duo has a low-power CPU and is good for basic tasks, but not really the kind of box you'd want to run much in the way of add-ons on. Perhaps super-poussin could comment on whether compiling Automatic would work with the newer x86 ReadyNas?
- aresgodofwar30AspirantSo you are saying the duo is being limited because it has a sparc processor and not an x86 based processor?

Well performance wise the Duo is good as a file server, but things could slow down a lot if you try to run much in the way of add-ons as the processor isn't very powerful. The newer x86 ReadyNas use much more powerful processors (and more memory by default) and can run many add-ons with ease. Also x86 ReadyNas were first released back in 08, I believe and no x86 model has been discontinued yet, so there's not so big issues with supporting older ReadyNas yet. The Intel x86 platform also receives more in the way of development focus by the open source world I would imagine as it's quite a popular platform.
I don't know if x86 ReadyNas has some of the same issues with regards to compiling Automatic, but a community developer like super-poussin should know a bit about what packages are installed, not to mention the Jedi. - aresgodofwar30Aspiranti'd like to get an x86 based readynas, but they are much more expensive. maybe netgear should think about updating the duo line with an x86 processor and do away with the sparc line.
if i have to ditch the duo because of sparc, i doubt i'll be staying with the readynas line. there are other companies that sell NAS devices with an x86 processor and i could install freenas on them to get a similar functionality that frontview provides. - Trial_MasterAspirantIf they ever develop the option to take HDD's out of Sparc and drop them into a Pro I'd sell my NV+ tomorrow. Otherwise I don't have enough storage space to move my data too.

They probably will eventually. Though even when such a NAS is still released the price of the Duo will probably be lower enough for some to still find it attractive.Trial_Master wrote: If they ever develop the option to take HDD's out of Sparc and drop them into a Pro I'd sell my NV+ tomorrow. How much data do you have? You do realise you can buy hdds and put them in the Pro and transfer the data from the NV+ to the Pro over your network? - Trial_MasterAspirant

That will probably be the way I do it. I currently have 4 x 1TB drives so when they hit capacity instead of upgrading the HDD's for NV+ I'll purchase a Pro and move everything across then sell the NV+. It would be nice to be able to migrate the data across from one platform to the other to avoid the additional cost though. - WhoCares_Mentor
- Trial_MasterAspirantStefan you are a legend! I'm keen to install this but just want to confirm (as per post 2 in this thread) that I won't kill Frontview.
