NZBGet general....

Hi all...

Since it seems that whocares is not updating anything anymore (?) it would be very nice if someone could update or make an autoupdate version of nzbget.

The one in apps by readynas guru does not work. fails to install.

The whocares version i have is not possible to update from within the app... (seems like many of his version are like that)

Any takers on this or anyone have trix/tips how to proceed, i would be grateful...

  • I've been using NZBGet for a while now and it works great on my 516.  Did you look at https://rnxtras.com/ ?

I'm running version 16.4.   It doesn't auto update I beleave.  In general you can get a newer version from https://rnxtras.com/ at a future date.  17.1 just came out 6 days ago from the date of this post.  Sept 5th 2016.   If you know what you're doing, you can SSH the newest version yourself but you can really screw up your NAS and Support won't help you if you turn on SSH.   One last thing.  Any programs on this site you want, cost a few dollars.  Someone took the time to do the deb files and want a little something for their effort.   Small price to pay.

Well, whocares is the guy running rnxtras.com... :-)

I'm using alot of his adapted apps...

And ssh down a new version is not that simple since whocares version dont have any of the update functions.

Who knows what i can screw up then.. :-)

Easiest way would be if whocares made his version "complete" so you could use the built in update function.

Instead of him making a new version all the time. A new version that he does for free anyway....

And second, i dont mind paying some small fee for his work. He had a great support but now i think summer and alot of other projects eats up his time.

Ok, I didn't even closly and who was doing rnextras.com.  I had to SSH install Sonarr and it works great, but it wasn't easy, but it does auto update on it's own.  You can do the same and download NZBGet at the source, the Linux version and SSH install that yourself and it should also allow updates as it should that way.  But again, it's risky.  If you NAS it backed up and if you screw things up, factory reset it again and maybe first get NZBGet working first and then restore all your data.

It would be much simpler of course to just download a .deb version and install that and have everything work simpley.  For example PLEX does this. They have versions for a bunch of NAS's ad Windows, Mac and Linux.  They call get updated at teh same time.  It won't auto update, but you can just download the newest copy and install and all is good.   PlexPl will auto update, so does Headphones, and SickRage which I was using before I got Sonarr working.  SickRage I can easily turn on/off so it's off, but I turn it on once i a while and update it and turn it off again as a backup to Sonarr.  Sonarr I can't easily turn it on/off.  I can shut it down in the app but it'll reboot when the NAS reboots.  I'd have to go in with SSH and kill the starting script for it.

If you be nice if whocares version of NZBGet update feature actually worked.  The currant version I'm using,16.4 works just fine and so I'm not in some huge rush to update at this time.   At some future point, maybe that will change.  I can either so back to SABnzbd which I don't like as much, or try my hand with SSH NZBGet also.  I'm in no way a Linux Person.  It's what little I know in all my years of using computers starting with a Vic-20 and a tape drive and a lot of Google seaches.  If I had a computer that I could run Linux on, I might try my hand at creating a deb package to install some of these App's onto a ReadyNAS easily.  Maybe that's something I'll get into at some point.

  • Edit: I provided direrections to my source below but decided I might save a bunch of people some time and effort and just post the package it creates :)

    NZBGet 17.1 (jhagg)

Make sure you have backed up NZBget settings and enjoy 17.1 hot off the presses.

If you follow THIS guide, you will be able to update your existing ReadyNAS NZBGet package to the latest, which is as of today 17.1.

Use the first option when he gives you 2 (the second option is for a testing version) and replace text in 2 areas that says 16.4 with 17.1.

You will be good to go if you follow this to the letter I have done it several times.

Let me know if you run into any trouble!

Correct, just upload the file in apps frontview and you are all set.

Yes for future updates you would need to repackage the updates per Richard's instructions, pay attention to the release version number and replace as approriate.  (18.0 is currently in development so you would just swap 17.1 with 18.0 as needed when its released.
