- theanonymousguyAspirantYeah that seems normal, though maybe my setup is just as jacked up as yours :? ...
- LichonAspirantI did some video streaming and it was painful slow. File was about 700MiB and took about 10 minutes to download, so there was plenty of upload (~9Mbit). Why was streaming so bad then ?
Even 2Mbit should have been enough. - claykinAspirantNeed to know what your broadband speed (up/down) is on both ends of the connection to give you any advice. On a Duo you should get about 400Kb - 1Mb/s speeds using Remote if you have a direct connection (assuming your broadband can push these speeds). If your connection is relayed (due to firewall blocking) then your speeds will be 50Kb -100Kb/s.
- LichonAspirantThats the thing, its not broadband but FTTH. 9/9 and 20/20, both with little to no usage so neither source or destination speeds are an issue. Since a regular FTP connection provides full speed does that leave ReadyNAS Remote as the culprit.
- claykinAspirantYup, sounds like Remote is relaying your connection. Most likely due to firewall setup on one or both ends of your connection. If you PM cap1 he'll assist you in resolving it so Remote can connect directly.
- cap1AspirantOne thing to keep in-mind when you doing the math is that files sizes are measure in Bytes and bandwith is measured in bits/sec. So if it takes 10 min to download a 100 MByte file, the average bandwidth is (100*8)/(10*60) Mbits/sec = 1.33 Mbits/sec.
If you are remote and accessing your NAS that is at home, then when you download files you will be using your home uplink. Now even though most ISPs tell you that you have 2 Mbps uplink, that is only while you are on their network. Once you hit the internet you are subject to the foreign networks your traffic traverse. For example, if you upload a file from your home PC to say some low profile web site (not youtube who uses a CDN that peers with almost all ISPs so it is like you are uploading on your ISP's network), it is unlikely that you will be transfering at your full uplink rate.
If you do end up with a relayed connection, you should see a popup over the system try icon in the lower right corner. - LichonAspirantI saw no notification that said it was using a relay connection, only saw "logged on", "online" and "logged out" messages.
I am getting full speed using regular FTP, so the foreign network is also not the cause.
Here is an example.file info
When you double click the video file then there is a delay of about 40 seconds before anything happens in the video player (MPC) and after that 1 second of actual video equals to about 9 seconds of shutter.
type: avi
size: 152891392 bytes
length: 00:24:09
video: 640x480 23.98fps 706Kbps
audio: 48000Hz stereo 128Kbps
You can not hear the audio as it comes in pieces. Changing the client settings did absolutely nothing.
I had to download the file to play it, which I what I wanted to AVOID by using ReadyNAS Remote.
A few other notes (WinXP) about Remote client:- Changing properties and selecting "OK" to save creates a new connection, that I did NOT request. I simply wanted to save the settings.
- Properties is NOT available to select until you have connected and then disconnected first.
- When ALT+TABing then a new untitled icon (looks like default .NET) is shown and always uses the first slot on the list regardless of any action you do.
Could this be either removed or named ? - I changed the hostname a while back, but the client still uses the OLD name. How do I get it to use the new hostname?
Remote on the NAS has been updated multiple times since the name change.
Those who are wondering where the log file is saved (as it is NOT in the program folder) then here is the path for WinXP:Documents and Settings\<YourUsername>\Locale settings\Application Data\ReadyNASRemote\
- cap1AspirantPlease PM me and we can setup a support session and I can have a look.
- Cain1AspirantIs there a firewall port we can open or something to speed up remote access? I assume my NAS has no built in firewall.
I'm using a Ultra NAS Plus. - sicabreAspirantSame issue here. Cap1, do you have any tips for boosting the speed.
FTP works ok and fast. Got 20/20 on both side (fibe 1:1)
